What Types of Home Additions Can I Do?
The different types of home additions fall into two main categories: Upward additions and outward additions. An upward addition adds space on top of the home to create a second story or attic space, while the outward home additions usually add one or two extra rooms on the side or in the back of the house. However, there are different types of home additions based on what the space will be used for. Let’s take a closer look:
A bump-out home addition adds a single room built right next to the house and connected by a doorway. Usually, these have a singular function, like a home office for dad, a playroom for the kids, or an extra bedroom for guests. A bump out could also be done on a larger scale to add more than one room, but it depends on how much room you have to add space. If you don’t have enough room on your property, you may not end up with very large rooms to add space to your home.
Some homeowners elect to convert their existing garage into a living space. This is known as a Garage Addition, and it’s very common for homeowners of houses on the smaller side. Being already attached to the home and the foundation, it’s very easy for the construction team to finish this project and add to your home.
Many other homeowners add a sunroom or a patio room. This is often a room that goes over what used to be your outdoor patio to create a space that is protected from the elements but can still be opened up to enjoy the outdoors on a day with beautiful weather.
